3 Reasons Why You Should Not Freak Out Over Low Blog Visit Stats [Data]

Hubspot Top Blog Views Stats Show that Even Top Sites Views are Small!

Blog visits statistics are something that many bloggers obsess over.  I was one of those frustrated by the low count on my blogs at times.  However, I have been tracking Hubspot for a long time and from time to time they reveal some of their statistics and it just floors me how little blog visits some of their top blog posts get.  Granted, the top post gets over 100K of visits but aside from that one the best posts hover in the low 20k visits and a full 40% of them are under 10K visits.  This is incredibly low for a site that is supposedly top of its space and has content galore, even a Web TV show!

Blog visit statistics are certainly important and the more targeted visits the better off you are but getting just a few views is not as bad it is sounds.  In analyzing the statistics they provided and other statistics I have gleaned from their webinars, I am amazed at how poorly some of their content and even some of their videos perform.  For having a huge audience and now Google behind them, these blog visits are anemic compared to their overall traffic and huge volume of targeted content.  So with my relatively minute traffic I can consider some of my top performers hits when comparing them to their traffic!

I used to freak out about only having views in the 50s at times but now I do not freak out any more.  I am not saying I would hate to see targeted blog visits statistics in the 100K range as they have achieved but I have realized there are at least three reasons why I should not freak out over low blog visit stats:

1) Targeted blog traffic coming to relevant and engaging content is much more important than huge traffic that does not convert.  Having huge untargeted traffic only feeds the ego because most of it, if any, will never convert.  Smaller super targeted traffic like Hubspot gets is the best content marketing traffic you can get!

2) Targeted blog traffic can still be beneficial even if the visitor does not convert.  As is the case with this very blog, a visitor might come and see something and blog about what they saw on your site and using best blogging practices places a link back to your website and helps with your SEO!  Massive untargeted traffic can actually hurt you because if they came based on a great title that did not deliver they can give you negative press.

3) Having even a few Loyal visitors that may appear to be silent but are very aware of you can still be a great plus.  In Hubspot’s case as in many businesses case, the constant contact does lead to noteriety and puts smaller content marketing agencies like mine on a track to become a future customer even if I do not qualify for them at this time.  The blog visits stats may say you have fewer readers but the readers you have may jut be incubating and creating a strong affinity to your brand until they are ready for your services.  It does not take massive traffic to convert customers and as with Hubspot, even huge traffic does not mean that most top content gets a good portion of the readership!

Please share your success story of how even a small blog traffic to a post converted to a customer!

The Customer is Not Always Right but You Can Help Them Find Their Way

The Customer Sometimes Goes the Wrong Way but you can turn them around to the right way!

The Customer is Not Always Right but You Can Help Them Find Their Way

The Customer is Not Always Right
and It is Your Duty to Correct Them!

Customers are not always right and it is your duty to educate them the best you can, so they find the right path. If they do not see your point or do not agree you will have the documentation that you objected and tried to change their mind in case that what you do backfires for them. When they come back to you saying it was your fault you can show them that you vigorously tried to change their mind.

Firing a Client is Sometimes the
Only Way to Show Them They Are Wrong

Market leaders tend to have so many customers they can afford to pick their customers.  Sometime customers want something so far out of your comfort zone that even if you are not a market leader and really need each and every client because you are starving, it is best to fire them to avoid problems including legal problems in the future.  This may be extremely difficult to do and should be considered for quite a long period of time before doing it, but it is an option you sometimes have to take.
The customer may hold the money and needs a certain level of control over the project but you are ultimately in control and as much as they chose to work with you, equally you choose them. Being afraid of the customer and of being fired is a bad position to be in and one that can lead to mistakes.  Fear has no place in business because it only leads to mistakes.  You cannot win them all and sometimes as Genghis Khan said “Run and live to fight another day”.  I have fired customers who have gone away for months and then come back acknowledging that they understood that I walked away because I was right and asking me to work with them. This does not always happen but I am not afraid of anyone and I sleep better knowing I take the best care of my customer than I can.

Be in Control of Your Customer
so the Wisdom they Pay you For Works for Them!

I am not rich, I am not a market leader, but I am in control of my services and I do care enough about a potential client to ardently try to make them see the errors of their way and also to walk away if I feel that I cannot stop them from failing.  I could be wrong of course, many visionaries see things so far ahead that a mere mortal cannot see the value in what they see—but that is a chance I will take to have peace in my life and know that I am giving my best for my customers.  Sometimes giving them my best means that I walk away and we both lose. Sometimes they realize that they should reconsider strongly their position because if I am willing to fire them then there must be something to what I am saying.  Sometimes, they respect my ultimate sacrifice to offer them my wisdom and stay under my terms, sometimes they go away and prove me wrong. If they persevere and prove me wrong then I will not regret what I did, but learn from my mistake and be more careful next time!  No matter what happened I will have a clear conscience and if they prove me wrong a new wisdom I did not have before!

What Is Your Holy Trinity of Inbound Marketing?

The Inbound Marketing Holly Quatrinity!

There is More than Facebook and LinkedIn for Content Marketing

Someone in a LinkedIn group I followed asked which we like best Facebook or Linkedin.  That started me thinking that really he was missing at least one crucial website for inbound marketing.  Immediately I thought that the third was Twitter, however, after reflecting a little I think the third item is a wild card because I consider Youtube hugely important.  It is clear that the two permanent members are Facebook and LinkedIn but I think that depending on your business situation which is the third member of the Trinity for you is up to your own business profile.

Facebook and LinkedIn

I hate Facebook but amazingly it has gotten me more business than LinkedIn. I like LinkedIn best though it is far from easy to use.  Since I am a content marketer both of these beasts are my bread and butter so I must use them both.  Even wrote a blog about it http://bit.ly/lxYwsH The only one I enjoy using is LinkedIn because I get energized by business and business talk so I am at home here!  However, there are two other players in content marketing that cannot be forgotten.  Inbound marketing and video are the two hottest internet marketing tools now, so YouTube needs to be strongly considered.  However, Twitter as tiny and meek as it is has a strong loyal following that does respond well to tweets at times.  Facebook and LinkedIn are not the whole picture without Twitter and/or Youtube.

YouTube vs. Twitter

I am slowly warming up to Twitter which I must use because it is part of the professional content marketing that I do.  I used to call Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter to Holy Trinity of Inbound Marketing and they really support each other so I must use them all.  However, the hottest trend on the net is actually video.  Youtube is the second largest search engine and has a huge following. I would say the perfect Holy Union is not a Trinity it is a Quatrinity! I actually need to add YouTube in the mix because it really is very important but it takes away from the sound bite of the Trinity because Quatrinity just does not sound as good, but it should be a Quatrinity!
I believe that if you had to choose only three, then the Holy Trinity would be different for different businesses.  While I bet that 90% of the people would choose Twitter and that most will not even think of Youtube; but for some businesses Youtube will actually be the best third member of the Trinity.  For me Youtube requires so much more resources that it does not make it as the third as much as I believe in its promotional powers.  However, my gut convinces me logically that there really is a Holly Quatrinity: Facebook, LinkedinIn, Twitter, and Youtube!  Add the element of local business and this debate gets really messy with Google Places so we will not go there.

Value that Drive Success—the perfect example Joe Pulizzi

I belong to a Linkedin Group that has an annoying (because of the volume of emails) yet inspiring discussion about favorite quotes.  The day after I discovered who Joe Pulizzi  was I came across this quote and was inspired by it because of his example:
Try not to become a man of success but rather try to become a man of value.
I joined Joe’s organization http://junta42.com but was confused by his site and wrote him directly.  His personal attention to my needs showed me by example how true this quote is, and out of him I got a great quote and two blogs….by just sticking to his principles he gave me more value than he expected and I gained two blogs out it!
How did Joe give me and show me value?  By doing what he preached, even if it added just the potential value of one person to him. One of the things I do when people ask me questions is post the questions and my answers to them on my blogs that way I can help others with it.  Instead of referring me to his blogs as I used to do; he answered me by email and gave me personal value that in no way made him money or gain him anything more than the gratitude of one simple person.  I say I used to because he taught me that personal attention captures the attention from the person you are trying to help then a bunch of links.  He speaks of engaging people in the social network sphere and he lived by his principles and gave me personal attention.  He showed me value and because of him I made the connection when I saw the quote!
Joe not only wrote me personally when I joined his site, after I replied within a very short period of time he responded to me personally.  When I still needed more help, he not only responded back to me once again but he stepped me up and referred me to one of his colleagues to see if she could help me. This internet marketing star showed why he became a leader when he helped a single person without using it to increase his social media ranking and beyond that passing it on to someone else showed me my value to him and made me feel special.  What is his success in this, very little because nothing he did gained him any money, in fact if his colleague is an employee of his, it cost him money when she took time to address my needs.  He showed me that value comes from the most unexpected places and that everyone matters and that he might be success driven but his success is driven by the value he offers.
Well I may not be a successful blogger and my value to him might be negligible at this time, but if nothing else I have become a back link to his site and in the long run that can be valuable to him.  Also with this testimonial I have proven to the world that he does adhere to his value of connecting to his audience and giving them something useful!  He neither asked for this testimonial, nor do I think he expected it, but because of his great example, he got it!
